MUS45 NAILBITER -  Faded Brain Age/ Abused LP

NAILBITER started playing around the squat scene of London in 2000. They were a hybrid between Swedish and Japanese hardcore punk - think DEATHSIDE meets ANTI-CIMEX. They were like no other band in UK in recent history. Their nihilistic and bleak look at the world was based on their every day existence being illegal inmigrants playing raw music and living on the edge. Hated by most LVEUM always thought of them as the real deal. After deportations and disbandings NAILBITER got back together and started touring again in 2010, with some new recordings on the horizon. Faded Brain Age/ Abused compiles their side of their split LP with DESTRUCCION (MUS10) and their MLP released originally by Hardcore Holocaust (HHR012). MUS44 THE ASTRONAUTS - Peter Pan Hits the Suburbs LP

Reissue of this long lost masterpice from 1981 originally released by Bulge / Genius records. The Astronauts were (and are, after close to 30 years and a history of lineup shifts only bested by The Fall) the definitive psych-punk ensemble, though even that title doesn't do 'em justice. Their sound culminates the post '77 punk dabblings of head forbears Twink (his 'Do it 77' single and The Rings' 'I wanna be free' platter), Nik Turner (the outstanding Inner City Unit and the 'punkier' late 70's bits of Hawkwind) and Daevid Allen's planet Gong (with fellow acid-punkers Here and Now) all woven in with an earlier Robert Wyatt / mellow candle-y psych folk vibe... While not sounding like any of those things at all. Get it? The album's range is gigantic: from dissonant punk a la Fall ('Everything stops for baby'), to epic progressive folk ('Protest song', 'Baby sings folk songs'), ditties ('Sod us'), hard-rock ('The Traveller'), pop ('How green was my valley'), garage / surf ('Still Talking'), industrial ('How long is a piece of string'), and set to arrangements that employ synths, flute, saxophone, and strays into progressive or even free-form / psychedelic sections. The icing on the cake is the mature statement of the lyrics, a cynical and bitter exploration of the lives of simple men, miles away from the generic horror / punk overtones that permeated most of alternative albums at the time.

On their debut album Public Sector, Hygiene take the listener on a post-pub stagger through the concrete walkways and underpasses of Britain's decline.   Daydreaming at their offices on a weekday or at home with their record collection on a Saturday night, the members of Hygiene are dislocated in both time and space.  Their LP has one DM boot in the past and the other longwing brogue firmly up the backside of the present.  Public Sector hearkens back to a time of Polytechnic radicalism, Special Patrol Group repression and O Level temptresses yet evades the pitfalls of vapid historicity and pastiche.  Hygiene see historical continuities and follow them to their logical conclusions, reducing their influences down to their essential constituent elements and reassembling them into now music for now people.  Flouting Rockist conventions with equal doses of stark minimalism and plodding fury, these post-punks resolutely refuse the "post" prefix.

MUS41 CRISIS - Hymns of Faith MLP

'Hymns Of Faith' by Crisis is finally re-released after some thirty years and yet it seems like only yesterday that I bought it upon its release. For thirty years, I have championed Crisis, like some kind of leper in the musical wilderness. I still cannot believe that La Vida Es Un Mus finally heard me. Very few records deserve the tag of classic, but 'Hymns Of Faith' is a classic record! Recorded by a band that was in the throes of death, this mini-LP features seven tracks of political punk (although some would describe it as post punk, an insult of the worst kind), covering the political spectrum from the Italian Red Brigades to the Kanada Kommando of Auschwitz. The LP may have lacked the bite of the earlier singles, but 'Hymns' was innovative and original, and has never been bettered, yet alone equalled. Forget 'Killed By Death', this my friends is the real deal! After Crisis, Douglas P and Tony Wakeford formed Death In June and Luke Rendall joined Theatre Of Hate. Kneel and bow in reverence to 'Hymns Of Faith'!

INVASIÓN from Barcelona started in 2004, and after several line up changes they finally put out their first album on LVEUM in 2007. In 2008 they put out the 'La Caza' 12"  and toured the USA. After the USA tour there were some more line up changes, so they decided to change the name of the band.  DESTINO FINAL is the new name but apart from that, little has changed. 'Atrapados' is an 9 track album of feedback and reverb drenched punk. It takes small slices of classic 80's European hardcore, English Anarcho punk and DISCHARGE and makes something that is dense, desperate and twisted.

DESTINO FINAL will start a USA- Mexico tour on May 8th and will be touring Japan July 09.

MUS26 ULTIMO RESORTE - La larga sombra del punk LP

ULTIMO RESORTE were the bridge between the very first Spanish Punk Generation and the first Spanish Hardcore Wave. During their 5 years of existence (1979-1984) they only managed to record a demo, and two impossible to find records. A self-titled 7 track 7" EP and "Una Causa Sin Fondo" a 5 track 12". "La Larga Sombra Del Punk" compiles both those records plus a 16 pages 11"x11" booklet with a long interview with the band and tons of pictures and fanzine clippings.

Musically they lay in between the most aggressive parts of VICE SQUAD, DISCHARGE, ELECTRIC DEADS or even SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES. Fronted by Silvia Resorte her voice became their trademark always backed by an urgent band trying to figure out what hardcore was about and a synth player that created a cold atmosphere over most of their songs. This seminal band hailed from Barcelona and you can tell with the desperate feeling their songs have. Their lyrics have that teenage angst feel that only bands from the early 80's managed to write. Together with RIP, KANGRENA, ANTI-DOGMATIKSS, VULPESS, DESECHABLES or LARSEN this band helped putting Spain in the international punk map back in the day.

Madrid’s Invasion stick the three-chord approach to hardcore with so many left turns – so much reverb on the vocals that it sounds like the singer is attacking himself, long pauses for ambience, non-instrument noises, and unsteady percussion that rapidly shifts upgear – that their take on the genre sounds both as it should (a tornado of masonry, heading towards unprotected bodies) and as they will it. ANGER BURNING first catch our attention on the V/A Cracked Pop Skulls 7" last year. A crudely produced compilation EP of young Swedish bands whose unique diet seemed to be SHITLICKERS, CRUDITY and MODERAT LIKVIDATION. Somehow the same feeling is carried to this their debut EP. Six un-relentless tracks full of urgency, rage and desperation the way the early Swedish ands did, there is nothing modern on it.
